Show Off Your Talent as Freelancer of the Year

From Shannon Belew, About.com GuideMarch 27, 2008

It's probably fair to say that most freelancers work diligently behind the scenes for their clients. In fact, freelancers work pretty darn hard, often with little recognition by anyone other their client. That's why it was such a surprise to stumble across an announcement recognizing several freelancers for their creative endeavors.

The Freelancer of the Year award is an annual program from UK-based, XChangeTeam. This year's winners included freelancers in five categories (from digital design to special events), including the overall winner, Rona Levin, in the PR and Communications category. For freelancers based in the UK, this is a fantastic opportunity to promote their work.

Not to leave out freelancers in the U.S. - and after a little digging - I found a similar freelance honor, the Freelance Inside Achievement Award, from Florida-based, Konnectivity Media. The publishing company is searching for top freelance talent in 10 primary categories with honorary winners also being recognized in 13 sub-categories. All of the winning freelancers will be recognized in the company's annual publication, Freelance Insider Review. The main categories are broad, ranging from freelance news journalist and freelance website designer to freelancer entrepreneur and freelance start-up of the year.

If you're interested in applying for 2008, it's just a matter of completing an application and submitting samples of your work. There's also no entry fee.

So why not give it a try? If nothing else, it would be nice to get some official recognition and anytime you receive an award, it's a little bit of guaranteed PR for your business! If you know of other awards for freelancers, or similar opportunities for freelancers to showcase their work and earn recognition, let us know.
