Locating the Ideal Partner

By Shannon Belew, About.com

Finding a good candidate to become a partner in your business isn't as difficult as it may first seem. The secret is knowing where to look. Here are two, often untapped, resources for partner-hunting.

Professional organizations are a great place to start your partner search. This can include everything from a local of Chamber of Commerce to a business networking association. The organizations make good pools for recruitment because these types of groups often have a large base of members, many of which are already self-employed and open to new opportunities.

Financial and legal advisors are also a boon for partner referrals.Your accountant and attorney not only work with you, but they work with dozens of other clients who may work in similar industries. And a professional advisor usually knows a lot about their clients and their professional situations. Though an accountant or attorney cannot share confidential information about a particular partner candidate, they can recommend who would be a good match for you. And they can help facilitate initial introductions.
