There are dozens of membeship-based organizations and non-member affiliations dedicated to promoting, developing and certifying project managers. Use this list of the top U.S. and international project management organizations to access project management resources and pursue certification.

The Project Management Institute

The Project Management Institute (PMI) is one of the leading membership associations for project management in the US. The organization is actively engaged in advocacy, setting professional standards, conducting research and providing access to information and resources for its members. PMI also promotes career and professional development and offers certification, networking and community involvement opportunities.

International Project Management Association

A non-profit Swiss registered organization, the IPMA has a membership comprised primarily of national project management associations throughout the world.

The American Society for the Advancement of Project Management

The American Society for the Advancement of Project Management or ASAPM is a project manager competence-based credentialing organization. It is an advocate of effective project management practice throughout all organizations.

The International Association of Project and Program Management

A leading project and program organization, IAPPM represents thousands of individual members in more than 30 countries. Membership is comprised of all levels of business professionals, executives, analysts, management and practitioners, all of whom are dedicated to the promotion of advanced project, program and portfolio governance, control and management.

The American Academy of Project Management

The American Academy of Project Management or AAPM is the global Board of Standards for project management industry professionals.

PMI Specific Interest Groups (SIGs)

Specific Interest Groups (SIGs) are specialized groups of members within the Project Management Institute. SIGs were developed to help members with common interests and in common industries come together and share ideas, challenges and concerns across geographical boundaries. Through networking, developing technical papers, teleconferences and collaborative work on special projects, members have a unique opportunity to learn and grow.

SIGs for Consulting

The PMI Specific Interest Groups (SIGs) has a group dedicated to consultants. The SIGs for Consulting meet at least annually, offer specialized training and conferences, and share information relevant to project management issues for consultants.
